IPITEK, a leader in optical transport systems for over 24 years, introduces the new AST, Advanced Services Transport. With the continuing expansion of HDTV, data and voice services throughout the broadcast and broadband industries, IPITEK saw the need for a platform that would allow the user to optimize performance of existing networks and also provide the flexibility to enable rapid deployment of new architectures and services. AST meets the requirements by introducing a common chassis for multiple types of system operations, while providing the highest performance and operating density in a minimum amount of rack space. Designed to meet the need for full system transport of multiple types of signals, the AST system allows the user to deploy a wide range of video and digital signals for transport from a single platform. The platform provides 21 any module slots together with a system controller and dual power supplies in only 4RU of rack space. System management is fully integrated into the chassis and modules and the system is designed to be managed by IPITEK's NodeWizard system or through a higher level SNMP monitoring system.

The new AST system combines high performance and low power, longer life components with highly flexible transmission capability for any type of system architecture from 1:1 to 1:n architecture. AST forward Transmitters provide a full 1 GHz bandwidth for maximum system utilization and dual input capability. The system includes three new transmitters, all designed to carry a combination of standard HFA and QAM signals. The basic AST-TDX 1310 nm transmitter provides output powers from 2 dBm to 15 dBm. The new design AST-TXD-DW is a full performance transmitter powered by a 1550 nm ECL Laser and providing a low cost alternative to external modulation transmitters in many systems and also provides the ideal method for newer FTTP architectures. AST also features the new AST-TXD-CW, CWDM transmitter. This unit is ideal for use as a replacement in systems where the current architecture does not allow for the addition of more services or where there is a need to carry forward and return signals over a common fiber.

The AST system also includes a new DWDM narrow cast QAM transmitter, providing transport of up to 41 DWDM channels over a single fiber, and allowing the system operator to provide QAM transport in a point-to-point architecture.

The full AST family of products also include a 1550 nm external modulation transmitter and a full range of optical amplifiers, together with a high performance single, dual or protected optical receiver, a full performance forward path optical receiver and return path optical transmitter and a high performance high band or low band RF amplifier.
