CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA -- Integrated Photonics Technology (IPITEK), a leading designer, developer, manufacturer and supplier of Video-Optimized Intelligent Broadband Networks, announced today a new state-of-the-art Advanced Services Transport (AST) Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) system. The new AST platform allows users throughout the broadband industry to optimize the performance of existing networks and also rapidly deploy the new architectures and services required to meet the continuing expansion of standard broadcast, narrowcast, and data and voice services.

IPITEK’s AST system utilizes the latest, most compact opto-electric design techniques. AST provides the highest module density with the smallest footprint by utilizing cutting-edge, lowest power components and mechanical design techniques. The new platform introduces a common chassis for multiple types of system operations, while providing high quality performance and operating density in a minimum amount of rack space. Allowing for full system transport of multiple types of signals, the AST system enables the user to deploy a wide range of RF, QAM, Video on Demand and Voice over IP digital signals for transport from a single platform. The AST system management is fully integrated into the chassis and modules, and is designed to be managed by IPITEK’s Node Wizard system or through an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) monitoring and control system.

“IPITEK’s new AST system offers flexibility, efficiency and the convenience of technology interoperability,” said Michael Salour, chairman and chief executive officer of IPITEK. “Our team of advanced research and development engineers are dedicated to creating products that enable broadband systems to deploy today the analog, HDTV and advanced IP services of the future. This new platform can be seamlessly integrated into existing broadband networks, providing customers with the ability to enhance their systems in the most cost effective manner.”

The new AST system combines high performance with reduced power requirements, longer life components and flexible transmission capabilities for any type of HFC system. The AST forward path transmitters provide a full 1 GHz bandwidth for maximum system utilization and dual input capability, and the system includes three new transmitters designed to carry any combination of standard HFC and QAM signals. The AST family of products also includes a range of RF and optical amplifiers, high performance single, dual or protected optical receivers, a full performance forward path optical receiver and return path optical transmitter, and a high band or low band RF amplifier.
